Older Virginians and their families have a powerful advocate in South Hampton Roads: Senior Services. As mandated in the Older Americans Act, we represent the interests of older people and their families to local, state, and federal legislators — and you can lend your voice alongside ours.
How We Advocate
You'll find Senior Services' staff and board members playing key roles in organizations working on behalf of seniors, including the South Hampton Roads Coalition on Aging, the Hampton Roads Legislative Advocacy Network, the Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging, and local commissions on aging. Another focus is the South Hampton Roads members of the Virginia General Assembly, where decisions about aging services are made each session.
Join the Cause
You don't have to be a policy expert to make a difference. Our Capitol Hill Club welcomes anyone who wants to learn how to advocate for older adults in our community. Members stay informed on the issues, hear about public policy platforms from groups like the National Council on Aging and AARP, and take part in Senior Day on the Hill. If you'd like to know who represents you, Virginia's Who's My Legislator? tool shows your state and federal representatives by address.
