Our volunteers are the reason a meal gets delivered, a homebound senior has company, and a nervous new smartphone user finally video-calls a grandchild. A few hours a week genuinely changes a life — and it's good for you, too.
Ways to Help
- Meal delivery driver — Bring meals and a familiar face to homebound seniors through our Better Together Cafés.
- Silver Surfers tech coach — Help older adults get comfortable with phones, tablets, and staying connected online. Great for anyone who enjoys teaching and technology.
- Front desk receptionist — Welcome visitors and lend a hand at our Norfolk and Franklin offices.
- Medicare benefits counselor — Get trained and certified to help seniors navigate Medicare, especially during open enrollment.
- Senior Advocate Ombudsman — Advocate for residents in long-term care. A one-year commitment of about four hours a week.
There are one-time opportunities, too, if you'd rather help at a single event.
Become a Senior Companion
Our Senior Companion Program pairs homebound older adults with active seniors nearby who provide regular visits and friendly support. Companions make a real difference — and enjoy the connection right back. To learn more, contact Robin Barton, Senior Companion Coordinator, at 757-222-4519 or rbarton@ssseva.org.
