Losing the ability to drive shouldn't mean losing your independence. I-Ride Transit provides free transportation for adults 60 and older across South Hampton Roads and Western Tidewater — to the doctor's office, the pharmacy, the grocery store, a friend's house, or almost anywhere you need to go within about a thirty-minute drive.
Where we go
We serve Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, and Franklin, along with Isle of Wight and Southampton counties. Rides run between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Medical rides
Need a ride to a doctor's appointment? We offer safe, reliable transportation for non-emergency medical visits and get you there on time. Same-day service is available based on capacity. We encourage booking two weeks ahead, but it isn't required.
How it works
The service is free, though donations are always welcome and help us serve more people. You can book a ride three ways: with the "Senior Services I-RIDE" app on your phone or tablet, online from any computer, or by calling our dispatchers at 757-461-9481.
- Our vehicles have wheelchair lifts, and drivers help you from your door to the vehicle and safely to your destination.
- Caregivers ride for free — just let us know you're bringing someone.
- There's no limit on rides. Some seniors ride with us every day, and you can set up a recurring schedule.
There's also a free fixed-route bus in Windsor, open to residents of all ages.
